Only GE Energy offers the CFR® XCP™ Digital Octane Panel Waukesha® with its control and functionality maximum level. Since its introduction, the guaranteed XCP™ digital octane panel widely established in modern analytical labs and it is now present in ASTM D2699-10 and D2700-10 methods and it complies with IP237 and IP236.

The XCP™ digital octane panel incorporates many easy-to-use features, including major automatic features and enhanced documentation features (see the system scheme below). Designed with the operator in mind, XCP™ digital octane panel is easy to use, user-friendly and ideal for all skill levels.

XCP™ is our new standard

The new XCP panel is now a standard equipment in the current production facilities. Further, the XCP panel and the octane analyzer are designed to accept future improvements and updates, as soon as they will be available.


User-friendly panel interface

The combination of a user interface with touch screen based on Windows® and a sturdy industrial keypad has resulted in a digitally enhanced control panel with many easy-to-use features. The operators can become rapidly expert and feel at ease in using the XCP™ digital octane panel. The technology of the XCP™ digital octane panel is immediately recognised and accepted by today's staff. The standard features include on-screen reports, on-screen operation, maintenance and parts manuals and internet and network connectivity. The user-friendly interface screens are clear and easy to use. Built-in prompt, automatic calculations and data log greatly reduce the possibility for operator's errors and allow the operator to rapidly acquire interfunctional skills, for a better workflow resulting in higher throughput and productivity.

More constant results

The easy to use software and interface assure that XCP produces constant and reliable results between operators. Briefly, XCP has been designed to promote data compliance independently from the user.

Automatic data recording

Critical information for each assessment are automatically captured and displayed using impressive pictures and easy-to-read graphs. The fuels assessment files include curves, calculations, tables, date timbres and engines recordings and are stored in easily accessible Microsoft® Excel® files. XCP is also compatible with the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), which allows IT professionals to easily integrate key information and results in the data network.

Throughput enhancement

The laboratory managers often have to face the dilemma of having a reduced staff, but also the need of having more operators with interfunctional skills to produce more octane analyses every shift. With XCP panel the additional operators can be rapidly trained, because a simple to follow template guides them through the fuel assessment process, with a reduced interaction required to the operator.

Report generation

All critical method operating parameters are detected during the assessment process, giving a traceable log which can be reviewed related to compliance with the method, in order to assure quality.

Automatic digital knockmeter

By using an automatic software solution, the need of being centred on knocking intensity (KI) 50 or being bound by 0-100 KI has been removed. The digital meter also removes the need to set the "SPREAD", which allows users to work with standard setup and consequently save time and reduce variability between operators. All information are given on a single screen with automatic data recording, results calculation and report generation.

Electronic Barometer

The electronic barometer on board allows operators to easily set the correction factor of ASTM/IP method required for the barometric pressure, without the need of referring to an external barometer. The use of on board barometer saves time and allows the operator to standardize the engine without the need for an external reference for the pressure.

Laser sensor of cylinder height

With the use of a contactless laser sensor, the cylinder height setup are available on screen as bidimensional values. The new sensor provides more accurate results eliminating the inherent problems to mechanical measurement systems.

Higher productivity

Users can optimize the XCP panel potential through the use of level lowering procedure embedded in the panel XCP. When carburetors with level lowering are used, the panel becomes "semi-automatic" because it significantly reduces operator's involvement.** (Carburetors with level lowering are standard on new units, please contact your local distributor for more details).

Reduced maintenance

By incorporating the use of current technology the duration is improved and the panel components maintenance is reduced. The digital panel uses standard pressure transducers, which eliminates the need of using separate meters for the calibration. A closed circuit built-in control for the oil, suction air and mixture temperatures have been incorporated, which allows a thoughtless temperature control. Further, a built-in maintenance log records the engine hours, the cylinder hours and oil replacement intervals.

Apparatus protection system

A built-in emergency stop switch, shut-downs for oil pressure and condenser temperature, a tri-phase monitoring and a synchronous thermal protection for the engine are now all serial and built-in in the digital panel. The panel complies with CE labelling requirements.

Updating possibility

The updating kits for the XCP™ digital octane panel are available for CFR octane assessment units. (Please contact your local distributor for units made before 1980).



The option of digital octane analyzer

GE Energy expanded the capabilities of its standard CFR® XCP™ digital octane panel, now offering the choice for a completely automatic octane analyzer option which significantly reduces operator's involvement. The octane analyzer integrates with XCP panel to automatically determine Research or Engine octane numbers using a bracketing procedure. This data acquisition method allows for fast choice and air-fuel ratio measurement for the maximum knocking value and in that way it significantly reduces time required to complete the octane number determinations.


Faster test time and lesser variability

The automatic octane analyzer option can process fuel samples in a bracketing mode in approximately 20 minutes for a complete determination of octane number (two steps). The constant results produced by the system also allow a lesser variability, thanks to a reduced operator's intervention.

Highly automatic for a lesser operator's error possibility, the octane analyzer:
Automatically performs a sequence of sample fuel and two primary fuels, according to ASTM D2699 and D2700, Procedure D (IP237 and IP 236) methods.
Automatically regulates the fuel/air ratios on all fuels for more coherent results.
Moreover, the purge cycle delays allow for a crucial engine stability to assure coherent and repeatable assessments and results.

The intuitive and user-friendly controls and the operating procedure of octane analyzer allow to train the operator in a shorter time.

Feature for ethanol fuel

Designed keeping today's fuels in mind, the XCP octane analyzer can analyse all alcohol-based fuels without modifying the hardware. All materials are fuel compatible.

Updating possibility

The assessment units with the XCP™ digital octane panel can be updated with the octane analyzer option. Moreover, the assessment units with the previous analog control panel can be updated by adding the XCP™ digital octane panel with the octane analyzer option.
